Meta Bright to supply renewable energy to Kemaman Municipal Council for 20-years
KUALA LUMPUR: Meta Bright Group Bhd has secured a 20-year renewable energy supply agreement for the Kemaman municipal council (MPK) in Terengganu, with the proposed set up of a 407.8 kiloWatt peak (kWp) solar photovoltaic (PV) system at Kijal Mall.
On Jan 1, 2024, MPK accepted a conditional offer letter from Mega Bright to participate in the solar PV without capital expenditure programme. Meta Bright will design, construct, install, commission, operate and maintain the solar PV system at Kijal Mall, which is owned by MPK. Under the programme, the council agreed to pay 36 sen per kiloWatt hour (kWh) fixed solar tariff rates for renewable energy generated by the PV plants at Kijal Mall. The 20-year agreement takes effect once the PV system is operational, in six months time.
As per the terms of the agreement, MPKl will specify the buildings and premises which will be supplied with renewable energy.
Meta Bright executive director of corporate and strategic planning Derek Phang Kiew Lim said the company is looking forward to working with other local councils in Malaysia.
"Municipal councils are the suitable party to craft and implement high-quality renewable energy solutions specific to their local conditions and needs."Partnering with us through our zero-capex program is a win-win as they can focus on continuing to deliver the best for the community while benefitting from renewable energy cost savings without up-front impact to their local budgets," he said.
Phang said the MPK project grows its year-to-date orderbook by 12 per cent to 3.81 MegaWatt.
The project is Mega Bright's first renewable energy related contract secured in 2024.
